Man with a Mission: Dr. Mark Trolice

A large reproduction of the artist Raphael’s famous fresco, The School of Athens, occupies a large section of a wall in Dr. Mark Trolice’s office. The magnificent work depicts Plato and Aristotle in the center of the canvas surrounded by other famous Greek scholars representing branches of knowledge like mathematics, science, philosophy and, yes, medicine. It’s a testament to two major facts about this extraordinary person: He’s got a taste for the classical arts, and he’s absolutely obsessed with learning, development and growth. And, after 20 years as an acclaimed physician, he’s not slowing down now.
When I first met Dr. Mark Trolice three years ago, I came away from the interview with an appreciation of life’s ironies and this doctor’s commitment to embracing and overcoming them. Dr. Trolice is a reproductive endocrinologist, a physician who specializes in fertility. When he married his wife, Andrea, they had no idea that their own infertility would lead them through 10 years of treatments, and eventually led to the adoption of their five children. “We wanted to incorporate our own experience into a real and practical way to help other couples avoid the confusion and loss that we felt,” says Trolice.
His clinic, Fertility C.A.R.E. (Center of Assisted Reproduction and Endocrinology), is a one-of-a-kind complex encompassing a wide range of educational, medical and ancillary services for couples trying to build a family. “The impetus of all this was family building,” says Dr. Trolice, “we never thought too much about the business side. We want to empower others and inspire them with hope. The complex amalgamates a holistic approach to reproductive medicine.”
With a focus on female reproductive system, Fertility C.A.R.E. also employs male reproductive specialist, psychologist, acupuncturist, and others. The practice is growing leaps and bounds, too. They’ve hired two new physicians, are planning to open a large ambulatory center with two full operating rooms in the fall, and will be opening two satellite offices (one in Celebration, and one on Florida’s Atlantic coast) very soon. A brand-new, state-of-the-art IVF laboratory with nationally-acclaimed staff is already in working order. The Angels Among Us adoption center, run by Andrea and supported wholly by Dr. Trolice, is still enjoying huge success.
The medical part is just one piece to the puzzle that completes Dr. Trolice. He’s also an acclaimed vocalist, having recently cut a record of Frank Sinatra covers. “I come from multiple generations of entertainers and singers. My father was a performer and being on stage is like second nature for me,” says Dr. Trolice. With the Rat Pack American songbook under his belt, he’s tackling a new challenge – opera. “There aren’t many who can be compared to Andrea Bocelli,” he says, “but I want to be one of them.”
Having authored many articles in scholarly journals, Dr. Trolice is taking the next step in his writing, and is in the midst of writing a book on responsible parenting. “While many can physically create life; what matters is your role in the life you’ve created,” says Dr. Trolice. He sets a good example with his commitment to family in his practice and at home, priding himself on giving 100 percent of his dedication to his work once he’s at the office, and 100 percent of his dedication to his wife and children once he gets home. “Out of everything I’m doing, all the projects and business-building, none of it’s at the expense of my family,” he says. “I’m doing all this for them, and if I’m not there to see it, what’s it really for? My life is my family, and family is my life.”
Along with his medical practice, Dr. Trolice founded Fertile Dreams in 2004, an organization dedicated to education about infertility, in-vitro fertilization (IVF), egg donation and adoption. To benefit the foundation, on Saturday, June 9, Dr. Trolice will be hosting an unbelievable gala party in honor of his 50th birthday at The Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes. The event will be complete with dinner, dancing, a Rat Pack tribute band, an internationally-acclaimed magician, comedian Steve Mittleman, and a roast of the birthday boy himself. Dr. Trolice will also be taking the stage to perform a few numbers himself. Tickets are $150 each and open to the public with all proceeds benefiting Fertile Dreams. For Dr. Trolice, passion drives his success and he is determined to leave no stone unturned in his life. “The last thing I want is to regret something I did not do while I had the chance,” says Dr. Trolice. “The phrase ‘I can’t’ isn’t in my vocabulary. I have a purpose- and passion-driven life with focused, determined goals. While I can, I will.”
